Membership is for groups, organisations or individuals that wish to support Sefton CVS in achieving its organisational objects.

Membership also presents an opportunity to take part in the organisation’s governance and participate in other activities undertaken by Sefton CVS

Purpose of Membership

Sefton CVS believes that membership brings real benefits both to our work and to society generally.
These benefits include:

- Enhancing the transparency and accountability of our governance structure
- Providing a constant source of trustees
- Giving us a consistent awareness of the needs of voluntary, community and faith groups
- Improving our advocacy role with public bodies by demonstrating the collectivism and impact of the voluntary, community and faith sector
- Enabling individuals to be more involved in their local communities and increasing individual participation in civil society
- Supporting local community action and developing fundraising opportunities
- Encouraging co-operation within the sector and developing a platform for consortium and collaborative working

Sefton CVS Objectives

Membership is a way of actively supporting Sefton CVS objectives, which are:

“To promote any charitable purpose for the benefit of the community in the borough of Sefton and neighbourhood, and in particular the advancement of education, the protection of good health,and the relief of poverty, sickness and distress arising therefrom.”

Membership Cost

Membership of Sefton CVS costs:

£10 for groups with an annual income of over £25,000

Membership is free for groups with an annual income of less than £25,000

Rights of Members

- The Members shall have the rights as members of the Charity in accordance with the Companies Act and the law.
- Each member of the Charity shall have one vote and may attend, speak and vote at general meetings of the charity.
- Each member may propose and second motions and may stand for membership to the Board of Trustees.

Limited Liability

The liability of members is limited:

“Every member of the Council undertakes to contribute to the assets of the Council, in the event of the same being wound up while he/she is a member, or within one year after he/she ceases to be a Member, for payments of the debts and liabilities of the Council contracted before he/she ceases to be a member, and of the costs, charges or expenses of winding up, and for the adjustment of the rights of the contributories among themselves such amount as may be required not exceeding one pound.”
